2 Overnight stays in LA: 21Mar07 and 30Mar07. Staying near LAX. What to do?

Looking to fill some time while in LA for the first time. Need to cab or bus around from LAX. Are there any good bands, concerts or musicals scheduled for either of those two nights? (I enjoy different types of music, from classical, accapella, blues, and rock. Could miss out on hip-hop, jazz or country.)

Also interested in the following: outlet stores for shoes or beach wear, restaurants, museums, rollercoaster park, scrapbook or rubberstamp stores AND places to avoid in regards to safety.

Time to fill: 12pm Mar 21 to 11am Mar 22. AND 4pm Mar 30 to 2pm Mar 31.

Thanks for your time!

Venice Beach is very close by the airport and is a great place to spend your day. Within walking distance of that is Main Street and Abbot Kinney in Santa Monica/Venice for great shopping and cafes/restaurants. The evening can be spent in the same area or anywhere else in the city, if you rent a car or take a cab. Melrose has great shopping and eating and a wonderful street scene. The list is endless.

Another close by area off the beaten path is Long Beach, which has recently gone a bit more upscale but still has a lot of funky charm to offer. It also has the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. Manhattan Beach and the other nearby beach communities to the south still have the old beach city funky feel to them and have clubs and restaurants to spare.
Reply:You could go to Santa Monica. This has the 3rd street promenade which is a shopping area and great place to people watch. Also in Santa Monica is the Pier which is a small amusement park. Not sure if it will be open that late during this time but might be worth checking out. This is only about 10-15 minutes by car/taxi.

You could also go to Hollywood area, on Sunset is the House of Blues they might have some concert going on. From LAX you can take the FlyAway bus to Union Station and from there take the Metro Red Line. This will get you to Hollywood and if you stay on it to Universal City which has Universal Studios and CityWalk.

The nearest Outlet mall would be the Citadel but that will be quite a ride by Cab and this is an area you would not want to rely on Public Transportation.

A bit farther out is Disneyland in Orange County,
